Frequently Asked Questions
General Question FAQ
  • What are the benefits of becoming a Bright Hub writer?
Bright Hub has a shared success model that pays writers through revenue sharing and thus provides an ongoing revenue stream that builds value over time. As your article is gaining popularity with the Bright Hub readership and search engines in the form of page views, you are being compensated for those page views on a monthly basis indefinitely.

Many of our channel models even provide an upfront fee for each article produced. Not only can you enhance your reputation online as a premier writer in the Bright Hub community, there are many opportunities for you to grow into other roles in Bright Hub. We offer writers a variety of career-enhancing opportunities rarely found in other online content sites.

  • Why would I join Bright Hub as a writer instead of doing my own blog?
Less than .2% of blogs make more than $100 a month in advertising. Thats not a lot for the amount of time and effort most bloggers put into their blog. With Bright Hub, we take accountability to make sure the website is optimized for revenue. We take care of revenue optimization for you so you can concentrate on what you do best, write good content!

  • What skills do I need in order to write for Bright Hub?
We are looking for writers with experience writing articles and subject matter knowledge in the areas of technology, health, science, education, parenting and more.

Depending on the channel model you choose, there may be editors who will assist you in article direction and article quality, or even educational support and tutorials to help you produce high-quality content. If you have work experience and/or 3rd party certifications and credentials, we highly recommend that this is showcased in your about profile on Bright Hub.

A managing editor or member of the Bright Hub team will review your application and get back to you with a response. There are some channels experiencing a high volume of writer applications, so response time will vary.

  • What topics can I write about?
Editorially managed channels have a Managing Editor responsible for the overall content direction of his/her channel. Working with that Managing Editor, you both can agree on article topics as well as how many articles you are willing to write per month.

Community managed channels allow you to research and self-publish content that fits within a channels defined topics without any direct oversight.

  • How do I apply to be a Contributing Editor in an Editorially Managed Channel?
There is no way to apply directly to be a contributing editor. Contributing Editors are chosen by the Managing Editor as a result of evaluating the premium writers within a given channel. .

Copyright and Contract Expectations FAQ
  • What kind of copyright am I giving Bright Hub, and what do I keep?
We retain online/ad-supported copyright to the material, whereas you can resell/redistribute it to anyone for hardcopy distribution rights.

  • What happens if my article is rejected, does Bright Hub still own the copyright?
In the case the article was rejected, copyright was never accepted by Bright Hub. Therefore you still own the copyright.

Bright Hub has a 0 tolerance rule on duplicate content. Cited reference material can only make up at the most 15% of an article. We will remove writers immediately who have had any plagiarism violations.

  • What happens if my article is accepted and published, and then later deleted from Bright Hub?
Our acceptance is conditional for a 60 day period of time. The only time we would delete an article after it has been published would be as a result of issues relating to plagiarism or duplicate content that arise after the fact and were not detected immediately. In that case, we do have the right to offset the cost of the deleted articles for future payments that we owe you.

  • I would like to publish my article on Bright Hub and my blog, can I do that?
Unfortunately, the same content cant be on both websites. Search engines frown on duplicate content and will actually demote the duplicated article. So if it shows up on your site first and ours second, we would get demoted and vice versa. It is up to you which website you would like to submit your not yet published work to, but it cant be both.

  • Do I have to sign a contract for each channel I write for?
No, you only have to have one contract signed with Bright Hub regardless of how many channels you write for.

  • What happens if I get sick and temporarily can't carry out responsibilities?
Since there is no minimum number of articles you have to produce, this only comes into play if an article you have previously written is requested to be updated by Bright Hub administrative staff, a managing editor or a contributing editor. If you get a request to edit or modify an article, and are not able to carry out that request within 30 days, you can ask for an extension from your Managing editor.

  • Is there a minimum number of articles I have to produce a month?
There is no commitment to a minimum number of articles a month. If you are working with a Managing Editor, you will both be able to establish appropriate submission expectations.

  • What if someone falsely claims that I plagiarized, what is my responsibility?
We take plagiarism very seriously. If it is a false claim, we just ask that the writer help us by providing any support (documentation, testimonial, etc) if a false claim is made. If the claim is found to be true, we are required to delete the article from Bright Hub and the writer will not be compensated for that work. Furthermore, plagiarism is a violation of the Bright Hub agreement and appropriate steps will have to be taken.

  • I represent a group of writers, can we sign up with Bright Hub?
We require that each individual writer become a Bright Hub member. Under U.S. Law, the only person who can convey copyrights to us is the original writer, who is the person we need to have a legal relationship with.

  • What about photo images, code samples, audio files that I want to use to support my article. Does Bright Hub get copyright to those also?
The text of the article falls under the Bright Hub media rights, but any supporting images/files remain the property of the original owner. Bright Hub will require you to provide a non-exclusive perpetual license to display the images/files on the Bright Hub site only in a manner for which it was originally intended. Bright Hub cant redistribute or alter your copyrighted content without your permission.
